MODx
Having finally found the time to do a proper update of my site I took the opportunity to get familiar with MODx, an attractive looking Opensource PHP Application Framework. It's always best to test a new framework with as real a test, so converting my old static portfolio into a CMS was ideal.

I can fully recommend MODx.

The documentation is good, the user base is growing, and most importantly I believe it achieves a very good balance between power and simplicity. There's always more than one way to achieve the results you desire, so you can adapt it to your own style. I hope it continues to grow and I am looking forward to utilising it to deliver good results for my clients in the future.

PHP Frameworks on test - CodeIgniter

I was recently introduced to CodeIgniter, an open source PHP Web Application framework. The number of open source frameworks out there seems to be growing, and I find it can lead to some confusion about which, if any, one should adopt. Well as I write this I've already used CodeIgniter on the administration side of a web site, and also on a CMS.

CodeIgniter is a doddle to pick up if you're fluent in PHP, and many of its pre-written function libraries are incredibly useful. I found a function for almost all of the really annoying tasks that come up again and again. It has a small footprint, is well documented, very easily configured and was a pleasure to work with.
